MiauMall

For Japanese brands

Your local retail partner in Australia

Bring your brand to Australian customers through MiauMall’s Japanese lifestyle stores. With locations in major shopping centres and our own team running them, we can offer both a place for your products and the support to get started.

You might begin with a range on our shelves, a pop-up or a dedicated section in one of our stores. If your brand is ready for its own location, we can also develop and operate a standalone store under your name.

We can handle the local work involved, from import compliance, freight and warehousing to finding a site, hiring staff, marketing and running the store each day.

Where your brand would sit

A place for your brand

Our stores give your brand a presence in major Australian shopping centres, with space to showcase your products and connect with local customers.

Your products can sit alongside complementary ranges, with shelf and display space in the right category. For partners bringing a fuller range, we can create a dedicated brand section. We also offer short-term pop-up opportunities in shopping centre common areas for launches and seasonal promotions.

For brands ready for a standalone store, we can develop and operate that too.

The market

Why Australia

Australia is an established consumer market where quality, clear product information and a brand’s story matter. Interest in Japanese products continues to grow, supported by Australia’s growing Asian communities and Australians travelling to Japan. Shoppers often return looking for products they discovered on their trip.

However, entering the market takes preparation. Major cities are far apart, making distribution costly and national coverage something to build over time. Food and cosmetics imports need careful attention to Australian requirements and documentation. Staffing and retail space are significant expenses, and securing a suitable shopping centre location often depends on local relationships.

A capable local partner helps you work through these practical demands, so you can make informed decisions and give your brand a strong start.

Why MiauMall

Why MiauMall

  1. Established shopping centre relationships

We already operate in major Melbourne shopping centres and are adding new locations. We work directly with centre operators, understand which locations suit different products and hear about opportunities through those relationships. You can draw on that access as you consider where your brand belongs.

  2. Regular experience importing from Japan

We import Japanese products for our own stores week after week. Our team handles the different requirements for food, confectionery, beauty and daily goods, including labelling, ingredient declarations and import documentation. We can help identify what’s ready to import, what needs changes and what may not be practical for this market.

  3. We have established freight and logistics arrangements

We ship out of Japan regularly, working with freight partners who already handle our consignments, and we hold and distribute stock in Australia. Your products can use the arrangements we already have in place.

  4. A team that runs the stores

Staffing, training, stock, merchandising and daily trade are handled by our own team. The advice we give comes from working with Australian customers and running stores every day.

  5. Communication in Japanese and English

Our team communicates in Japanese with your side and in English with Australian centres, regulators, suppliers and staff. Our team understands the business on both sides and handles those conversations directly.

  6. Clear control over channels and pricing

You set the requirements for where your products may be sold, through which channels, in which regions and at what price. We agree those terms with you, put them in writing and enforce them in our operations. We don’t sell through channels you haven’t approved or allow onward resale that takes your products outside those terms.

Your identity

Your Brand, Your Name

MiauMall does not require partner brands to sell under the MiauMall name. Depending on the brand strategy, we can also develop and operate standalone stores under the partner brand’s own identity.

We respect each brand’s pricing structure, sales territory, store image and long-term strategy. Where a brand needs its own store, its own presentation and its own customer experience, we build that and operate it entirely on your behalf.

Partnership models

Regional or exclusive agency

Best suited to Brands wanting a single accountable partner for Australia, with defined territory and terms.

Short term

Pop-ups and short-term activations

Best suited to Brands wanting to test Australian demand with real sales data before committing.

In our stores

Dedicated space within our stores

Best suited to Brands bringing a full range and wanting it presented as their own section.

In our stores

Shop-in-shop concessions

Best suited to Brands wanting a permanent branded space without the cost and risk of a standalone store.

Own store

Licensed or specialty brand stores

Best suited to Brands ready for a dedicated Australian store operating under their own name.

Own store

Master franchise

Best suited to Brands with an established franchise model seeking an Australian master partner.

Own store

Operating support for brand-owned stores

The process

How We Start

  1. 01Tell us about your brand

Share your products, current export markets and what you’d like to achieve in Australia.

  2. 02Assess the opportunity

We look at import conditions, realistic retail pricing, likely customers and which of our stores would suit your products.

  3. 03Agree on a proposal

We recommend a partnership model, outline commercial terms and explain what entering Australia would involve. If we don’t think we’re the right partner, we’ll tell you.

  4. 04Test the market

We introduce your products through our stores or a pop-up in a major Melbourne shopping centre, with care for how they’re presented to customers.

  5. 05Review the results

We share sales volumes, average transaction value, repeat purchase rates, performance by product and direct customer feedback.

  6. 06Decide on the next step together

Both teams review the same information and consider whether a larger presence makes sense.

  7. 07Develop a dedicated store

For brands that demonstrate potential, Tohjo Pty Ltd can fund the Australian store, including the lease, fit-out, recruitment and ongoing operations.

  8. 08Grow with our network

As we expand into Sydney and beyond, there are opportunities for your brand to grow with us.

By the time we discuss a dedicated store, we’ll have a clearer picture of who buys your products in Australia, what sells and how often customers return.
